Shanghai Normal University

As a key university in Shanghai, Shanghai Normal University (SHNU) is a comprehensive local university with salient features of teacher training and particular strength in liberal arts.

At present, SHNU confers doctorate degrees in 6 first-level disciplines, 42 second-level disciplines and 2 self-owned disciplines, runs 6 post-doctoral research stations, and grants master degrees in 29 first-level disciplines, 154 second-level disciplines, 2 self-owned disciplines and 10 professional disciplines. It also offers bachelor degrees in 84 disciplines, including Philosophy, Economics, Law, Education, Literature, History, Science, Engineering, Management, Agronomy and Art. The teaching faculty of SHNU is well-constructed, possessing a group of worldwide well-known experts, scholars and excellent young academic talents.

The faculty takes initial shape into a team that leaded by the distinguished professors, supported by the academic leaders, and based by the young and middle-aged teachers with high academic levels. Up to now, it has over 1713 full-time faculty, in which more than 260 professors and more than 533 associate professors, and 567 of the faculty with doctor’s degree.

In addition, this university formed a part-time faculty of 580 teachers, including 5 distinguished academician level professors, and more than 100 foreign nationality teachers.

SHNU also have one key discipline at the national level, one key research base of Humanities in local universities approved by the Ministry of Education, one municipal key laboratory, 3 E-research institutes, 13 key disciplines at the municipal level and 15 key disciplines under the supervision of Shanghai Education Commission, 3 research bases of Humanities in local universities, 2 key Shanghai Laboratories and one key laboratory under the supervision of Shanghai Education Commission.

Chinese Linguistics and Literature belongs to the Cultivation Program of the National Social Discipline and Scientific Research Base which are authorized by the Ministry of Education of People’s Republic of China. Classical Literature is one of the four bases that are built by the nation. Tourism Exhibition Economy and Management, Teacher Education, Chinese Linguistic and Literature, Applied Chemistry and Biotechnology; and so on are included in the Shanghai Talent Highland Cultivation Undergraduate Project.

SHNU is one of the first universities receiving international students since 1965. Each year in our university there are more than 2,000 short-term and long-term international students. It has also conducted cooperation and exchanges with over 248 universities from more than 34 foreign countries such as the United States, UK, France, Japan, Korea and so on.
